I manage a small 10 acre/4 hectare farm in East Central Minnesota mostly for pleasure, and food for my family. Apart from medical and transplant uses, pigs are a poor choice for a meat animal; inefficient converters of feed to meat, highly intelligent, (not a benefit, trust me), and there is a morality in killing animals more intelligent than many members of Congress for food. Better choices are rabbits and guinea pigs, which can live entirely off of greens; hay, vegetables wastes, etc., and provide very tasty, efficient, high ratio edibility to waste ratios, rapid reproducers, and easy to house. Add ducks, prawns and tilapia and you're set.
